David to Return as Hamlet

I'm sorry if this news is a bit late, the Sun outside is too tempting! Anyway, it has been confirmed that David Tennant will return as Hamlet in a film version of the play which will be shown on the television:

David Tennant is bringing his Hamlet to the screen. Tennant famously played the Danish prince as part of a Royal Shakespeare Company ensemble at Stratford and in the West End. The entire cast from that production will be joining him, including Patrick Stewart as Claudius, Penny Downie as Gertrude, Mariah Gale as Ophelia and Edward Bennett as Laertes. Gregory Doran, who staged the play for the RSC, will shoot the film version on the location.

Doran's stage production became a phenomenon and every night in Stratford and London there were people queuing around the block for returns. The joint RSC/BBC production will be shown first on BBC2 and there are plans being discussed for it to be released on DVD. As BBC2 controller Janice Hadlow noted, 'it's an absolutely wonderful opportunity to bring one of the great stage successes of last year to a wider audience'.

I'll definitely be watching, although it'll bring back horrible memories of the NTA's where he revealed he would be stepping down as the Doctor...

I'd just like to say thanks to everyone for 30,000 unique hits. It feels like such an achievement!

Series 5 Companion Revealed!

Karen Gillan, pictured above, is set to be the 11th Doctor's new companion in 2010! This means the two lead roles have gone to some fairly unknown actors. Here is the press release:

The BBC today revealed that the companion for the forthcoming series of Doctor Who will be Karen Gillan. Twenty-one-year-old Gillan will star alongside new Time Lord, Matt Smith, when the smash hit drama returns to BBC One in spring 2010. With filming due to begin this summer, Gillan beat off dozens of hopefuls to land one of television's most coveted roles. Gillan said: "I am absolutely over the moon at being chosen to play the Doctor's new companion. The show is such a massive phenomenon that I can't really believe I am going to be a part of it. Matt Smith is an incredible actor and it is going to be so much fun to act alongside him – I just can't wait to get started!"

Lead writer and Executive Producer, Steven Moffat, added: "We saw some amazing actresses for this part, but when Karen came through the door the game was up. Funny, and clever, and gorgeous, and sexy. Or Scottish, which is the quick way of saying it. A generation of little girls will want to be her. And a whole generation of little boys will want them to be her too."

Executive Producer and Head of Drama BBC Wales, Piers Wenger, said: "We knew Karen was perfect for the role the moment we saw her. She brought an energy and excitement to the part that was just fantastic. And when she auditioned alongside Matt we knew we had something special. It is a partnership that is ready to take on the universe!"

Four Word Title?

The latest issue of DWM has reported that one of the final episodes will have a four word title, leading to all sorts of speculation. Will it relate to the 'he will knock four times' warning the Doctor received during Planet of the Dead?

Thanks to Miss Gallifrey for this news.

Bigger on the Inside on a Bigger Screen?

Some interesting stuff from Lizo Mzimba, a BBC news reporter:

"BBC Films have confirmed a Dr Who film script is already in development. But if it does go into full production that's likely to be some time away. So, to be clear, it's not guaranteed a Dr Who movie will be made. All BBC Films are doing is developing a script, before making a decision."

Do you think this is a good idea? If it does go ahead, it must mean Matt Smith would be the Doctor, but would a film be too much?

TARDIS Spotted

The TARDIS has been spotted in a very unusual location - on top of the Millenium Centre in Cardiff Bay (this is almost opposite the Torchwood Hub.) So what could this mean? The cast and crew were also spotted, so it hints that this could be where the regeneration takes place.

Lots of News from DWM!

The latest issue of DWM has confirmed that the Doctor will star in two episodes of Series 3 of The Sarah Jane Adventures in Autumn! Russell T Davies stated, "... it's more than just a cameo from the Tenth Doctor! He's a proper part of the story." He said that the episode is "extraordinary, wild and powerfully moving," and that, "let's just say that the wedding of Sarah Jane will be a day for everyone to remember!" This sounds interesting, and I will actually watch it for once!

The magazine also confirmed that a new animated story entitled 'Dreamland' will be available on CBBC this Autumn. It has been revealed that David Tennant will be voicing the 10th Doctor, and Georgia Moffett will be the voice of a new character called Cassie Rice, not Jenny, the Doctor's daughter.

It all sounds good!

New Posters

Three brand new posters are now available from most good shops! They can be seen below (click to enlarge) and are each £3.99. Sorry for the watermarks, and thanks to Miss Gallifrey for the images!

The End of Filming?

It has been reported on Benjamin Cook's Twitter page that David Tennant has finished his filming as the 10th Doctor *cries*. It really feels like the end of an era, even though there are 3 more episodes left. Strangely, Benjamin Cook quoted David Tennant as saying, "I'm like an uncool spiderman" - whatever that means, I don't know. Any suggestions?

So it may be all over, but David Tennant could have some small scenes to re-film or adjust. One question though: what will happen to his suit and coat? Will they be stored away for future use?

Multiple Endings?

The Daily Star has today reported that multiple endings have been filmed for the 10th Doctor's regeneration and that fans will be kept guessing right until the end. An insider said, "How the Doctor goes out is a secret - even to him. There are a few possibilities being filmed and the final one will be chosen later.”

Do you think this is true? It would seem like a lot of fuss and would probably cost lots of money... Thanks to WhovianNet for the news!

Red-Eyed Ood and Doctor

An interesting picture has emerged online and it can be seen below. It shows the Doctor on the floor with a red-eyed Ood standing over him! I didn't like this picture much - it makes me think the Doctor's in pain from regenerating, and it makes me sad. Please don't leave!!!

Rose and Jackie Return!

It has been rumoured for a long time, but now it's been confirmed! Rose Tyler is returning for, presumably, the 10th Doctor's final episodes! Also coming back is Camille Coduri, who plays Rose's mother, Jackie. Pictures from filming at Cardiff (in the snow!) can be seen below:

Billie Piper and Camille Coduri in very colourful outfits..

Maybe showing the Doctor some baby pics?

Rose with a very long scarf.

This place looks very familiar to me...

He looks worried...

One Year Online!

It's hard to believe but a whole year has passed since The-OncomingStorm first opened! Wow! This time in 2008, I was busily designing the website after moving from Piczo, and ever since it has been bringing you the latest news, had several different layouts, received loyal visitors and hosted episode discussions, and it's still going strong!

There are lots of people who visit this site regularly and keep it going, but I'd like to thank these people especially for all their encouragement and kindness: Will, Sylar (Rob), Miss Gallifrey, Ro, Meg, MDWM, DWMO (Kyle), thedoctorwho07... argh, there are so many that I can't remember! I'm sorry if I forgot you, but you are still greatly appreciated!

Also, special thanks again to Meg from Laser-Screwdriver, she made the fantastic banner above. I received many great entries, but I think the ball bearings on the cake won it...

Let's just now hope that the site can last another year!

I'd like to wish her a great day!

Brand New Twilight Site

It may seem like I've opened and closed Cullen and Swan a million times, but now I can guarantee it's gonna stay open, because I'm co-owning it with Will, with whom I also own the Avatar Proclamation.

We've been working on it today, so if you're a fan of Twilight, go to this link www.cullenandswan.blogspot.com. Sorry to shamelessly advertise, but there isn't much news around anyway!

Eve Myles is Expecting a Child

Actress Eve Myles, famous for playing Torchwood's Gwen Cooper, has announced that she is expecting her first child. The 31 year old said:

"I've wanted to do this for such a long time, but I kept getting job after job after job. I thought, if I put this off any more I'm going to be 65. My partner and I decided this year was going to be the year, and we were blessed that it happened so quickly. It's the best thing that ever happened to me – we're over the moon. We went for a scan and my mum was there.

And my mum went: 'No, it's not a Nostrovite! It's a real Welsh human!' But of course it crosses my mind – I hope it's not an alien!" I hope we get a new series. I'd really like to play Gwen as a mother. It's not like I have to really save the world – I just have to sit in make-up!"

I wish her a happy and successful pregnancy!

Rose Smith to Return?

This site has posted a very interesting article about the possibility of Rose and the Other Doctor returning...

Just found out this morning that Tennant is coming up to London on Friday to shoot a scene with Billie Piper. And it is literally just the one scene. Episode 4.18, Scene 163 to be precise. They're going to be out on location in a reasonably public place so there's some chance of photos but I don't want to be too specific in case the descent of hordes of 'Doctor Who' fans prompts anyone to try and find out where the information originated.

No idea what the scene actually entails but the Call Sheet lists the characters as "The Other Doctor" and "Rose Smith" so draw your own conclusions!

So could this mean the return of Rose 'Smith'?

His Song is Ending Soon...

(The picture above is my rubbish attempt at a graphic. Hmph) So the Tenth Doctor is due to regenerate soon, but how exactly?

I want to hear you theories as to what will cause him to change. A Dalek extermination, or maybe death by the Master? Post your comments!

Torchwood Episodes Airdate

It has recently been revealed on an Eve Myles fansite that the 5 Torchwood episodes for the story 'Children of Earth' will start roughly around June 15th. That gives us something to look forward to during the long time without any Doctor Who!
