This news may seem a little old to some people, but it's better than nothing. Anyway, rumours have been circulating that Series 5, where Matt Smith makes his debut as the Doctor, is set to be split into two halves - 6 episodes in the spring featuring a cliffhanger, and then the other 7 episodes later on in the year. This is a US style approach to the series, and I don't think it would work, although nothing has been confirmed yet.
Also, while posting this I realised that Matt Smith has an oddly long neck... not that I've got anything against that, I'm just being over-observant!
Thanks to Life, Doctor Who & Combom for this!

Not old really as I have never seen it or heard of it, I like the idea actually as then there isnt a long time without the show.
HaHa lol, now you mention it I can see a strangely long neck ;)
I actually think that the two halves a year thing would be quite intresting... Instead of getting one clump of Doctor Who, you would be getting it at the beggining and end of the year...
It would be quite good cos we would have less long to wait till Christmas, but quite bad cos we'd only have 6 eps at the start of the year. And Matt Smith is tilting his head backwards, so his neck looks elongated :D
I hope not and I don't think Steven Moffat would sink so low. lol
Like you said about the American approach to the series, that normally works because there are around 21-25 episodes in a US season. Not the 13 episodes we have in Doctor Who. I think that after a very long for the series it would instantly lose it's momentum.
like the split idea like american shows, but it would be great if they really did go like america and make 12 episodes for one half of the year and 12 more for final episodes of the year =) that would be great =)
