Another Radio Times Cover!

Above is the cover for the special Radio Times issue celebrating this year's Christmas episode, The Next Doctor. The magazine, out today (29th November) includes an exclusive preview of David Tennant and David Morrissey who both star in the episode. The issue is available to buy at all good newsagents at the price of £1.05.

The Next Doctor Synopsis

The BBC Press Office have revealed the synopsis for this year's Christmas Special 'The Next Doctor.' It can be seen below as well as some promotional images which were also revealed.

It's Christmas Eve in 1851 and Cybermen stalk the snow of Victorian London, in this special Christmas edition of Russell T Davies's Bafta Award-winning time-travelling drama. When the Doctor arrives and starts to investigate a spate of mysterious deaths, he's surprised to meet another Doctor, and soon the two must combine forces to defeat the ruthless Miss Hartigan. But are two Doctors enough to stop the rise of the CyberKing?

David Tennant stars as The Doctor, David Morrissey as The Doctor and Dervla Kirwan as Miss Hartigan. This episode also features Velile Tshabalala as Rosita.

45th Anniversary

It takes a lot to be named Longest Running Sci Fi Programme, but Doctor Who certainly deserves it. Today is the 45th Anniversary of the show, which just proves that it is incredibly popular as it has the staying power of nearly half a century.

Back in 1963, William Hartnell burst onto our screens as an old man from Gallifrey known as the Doctor. Little did the audience know that, over time, this man would become a legend and change his face several times to become the incarnation he is now, David Tennant.

Over the years, the Doctor and his companions have travelled to hundreds of planets, faced the Daleks over and over again and had the time of their lives. And he's still going strong in 2008.

Doctor Who's popularity is so high that every week millions of viewers tune in to see what will happen to our favourite Time Lord. The show is even broadcasting in other countries, like Australia and America. Merchandise flies off the shelf each Christmas, and no matter how many times they are on, the Whovians always watch the re-runs continuously and never get bored.

Let's just hope Doctor Who can last another 45 years into the future, and maybe even make one hundred.

Midnight Nomination

Russell T Davies' Midnight has been nominated at this year's Royal Television Society Craft and Design Awards (that's a mouthful, imagine trying to repeat that after someone says it!) The episode is up for the 'Best Sound in Drama' award, let's hope it wins!

On another note, I have been receiving random emails from people asking me to contribute to their blogs. Unless they ask me personally and I know them fairly well, please do not ask me! It's enough having to run this site!

Boxset and Soundtrack Releases

Today is the 17th November, which means The Complete Fourth Series boxset is released! The boxset contains all 13 Series 4 episodes, as well as the Christmas Special 'Voyage of the Damned,' the Children in Need special 'Time Crash' and the Proms mini-episode 'Music of the Spheres.' That's not all, as they are many special features, including David Tennant's video diary and much more.

The boxset will have many different versions, HMV are doing their own special covers. The boxset has a RRP of £69.99 - will you be buying it or waiting for Christmas?

Not really Doctor Who news but hey, there's been hardly any around recently! The BBC have confirmed that David Tennant's latest project 'Einstein and Eddington' will be shown on Saturday 22nd November at 21:10pm on BBC Two.

DWM Issue 402 Cover

The cover for issue 402 of Doctor Who Magazine can be seen above. The issue, out on November 13th, contains a feature on the Brigadier's return in The Sarah Jane Adventures, news on David Tennant's departure, an interview with Producer Phil Collinson on leaving, as well as a special Mini Booklet and much more. The issue will be available to buy in all good newsagents at a price of £3.99.

Final Scene Written

Russell T Davies has revealed that he has written David Tennant's final words in his highly anticipated regeneration scene, and that only he, Benjamin Cook (whom he wrote The Writer's Tale with) and Julie Gardener have read it.

At the National Film Theatre on Friday, he said that the regeneration will be "slightly different, but similar." It also emerged that David Tennant's decision to leave was made during 2006 while filming 'The Runaway Bride' and that Russell T Davies will have no part in deciding who will play the 11th Doctor.

Dr Moon to Dr Who?

BBC bosses are in talks to sign actor Colin Salmon to be the first black Doctor, according to The Sun newspaper. They want the James Bond star to take over when David Tennant, 37, leaves in 2009.

Colin, 45, appeared as character Dr Moon this year — but is best known as M’s assistant in three 007 films. He was tipped to land the Bond role before it went to Daniel Craig.

A BBC source said: “He made a good impression when he appeared and bosses think the time is right to have the first black Doctor.”

Are You My Grandaddy?

The next Doctor Who could be a Grandad if the show’s new boss gets his way. Steven Moffat thinks his ideal Time Lord would be over 40 and more like a grandfather than a young actor.

Speculation over who the new Doctor will be has intensified since David Tennant revealed that he is quitting after filming next year’s four specials.

Moffat — who will take over from Russell T Davies — said: “Although I loved Peter Davison and Paul McGann, probably the best two actors in the role, I don’t think young, dashing Doctors are right at all. He should be 40-plus and weird-looking — the kind of wacky grandfather kids know on sight to be secretly one of them.”

Veteran TV writer Moffat, 47, told the show’s magazine in 1999 that the best actor to play the role would already be famous, adding: “Any actor with the ‘right stuff’ is unlikely to be a complete unknown.”

Presenter Terry Wogan today announced on his radio show that the person playing the next Doctor might be revealed during this year's Children in Need. Billie Piper - The Next Doctor?

After appearing on BBC Breakfast this morning, rumours have sparked that David Tennant believes Billie Piper could be the Next Doctor, or infact that anyone could take his place.

When asked if Billie Piper, who played a former companion Rose Tyler, could succeed him, Tennant said, "Why not? It’s one of those parts that any actor could bring something valid to.”

“It can be anything and it’s a sort of blank canvas every time. The fact is that the difference is a virtue with each Doctor, it’s not like you’re casting Tarzan where you’ve got to have somebody who looks good in a loin cloth, it can be anything.”

Actor Tom Ellis has also been linked to the role. What do you think about this?

Tennant on BBC Breakfast

David Tennant will appear on BBC Breakfast tomorrow morning (Monday 3rd Nov) to talk about his unexpected choice to bow out from Doctor Who after the 2009 Specials. He is expected to be interviewed after 8.30am.

Playing the 10th Doctor caused David Tennant to rise to fame in 2005 and ever since he has been in 3 Christmas Specials, 3 series and 2 Children In Need specials. However, will his fame continue after Doctor Who, and will he still remain typecast? What do you think?
